Famous chops it up with Naked Eye Magazine about the city’s music scene and what he’s got cookin’ in the lab. The “I Wanna Know Your Name” remix video drops March 16th!

Famous is one of the city’s emerging talents.  If you haven’t heard about him yet, you must be living under a rock because he has worked his way up to become one of Toronto’s big guns. As an upcoming artist he has also been steadily on his grind looking to be noticed and to win over his “screw-faced” audience.  The Juno-nominee has greatly contributed to the city’s urban culture, both behind the scenes and at the front of the stage.

Famous, how would you compare Toronto’s urban culture now to how it was years ago?

I think the culture itself has always been around. That’s what Toronto is known for. I think the quality of the music is getting better. I think there’s an energy being created right now and things are looking like the late 90’s when Kardi, Chocs, Sauks, Baby Blue and them. They had the movement progressing until BET came and Master T left.

Via 2DBz! Toronto-bred producer Marco Polo has linked with Ruste Juxx for the album The eXXecution due out on Duck Down Records on March 23rd. Between now and then, they’ve decided to put out a viral video every day featuring a different verse to promote the project. Sounds good to me!

New joint/video from Mojo Records/URBNET recording artist Miles Jones. Produced by the legendary Mr. Attic from Da Grassroots! MP3 below or you can find it on his album Runaway Jones which is available on iTunes now and features appearances by Shad, Classified and production fro Black Milk. Here’s some more info on Miles:

Miles Jones is a rising star in the Toronto hip-hop scene, but for those who know him best this does not come as a surprise. Bass runs through Jones’ veins. His grandfather helped pioneer the reggae movement at Studio One in Jamaica where Bob Marley and many others recorded their first big hits, while his father Hedley Jones aka Deadly Hedley Jones Jr. was an influential DJ on CFNY-FM and the early Toronto club scene.

Miles continues this tradition by being active in all aspects of music as a DJ, producer, emcee, songwriter and the owner of his own label Mojo Records & Publishing. A true student of the craft, Jones’ debut album One Chance also served as his thesis at McMaster University. The disc was released to critical acclaim and even helped garner Jones the 2007 Ontario Independent Music Award for Hip Hop Artist of the Year. Miles has also been recognized for his song writing talents. He helped contribute 11 songs to Sony BMG’s music catalogue as part of the Canadian Idol songwriters conference.

The future is bright for this young emcee, Miles a man of great drive and passion has taken responsibility for his own destiny, funding and executive producing his new album Runaway Jones. Miles had the chance to work with some of his childhood icons as well of some of today’s rising stars, including the first single Never Too Late that was produced by Detroit’s Black Milk.
